Rippen Allegro — a Dutch-built upright, 115 cm tall, in oak, high gloss.
Rippen made its name in the Netherlands with slim uprights that suit a home. The Allegro is exactly that: an instrument for the flat, for teaching at home, and for anyone who wants an hour of practice a day without clearing half a room for it.
At 142.5 cm it is narrower than most uprights, and 55.5 cm of depth goes through any door. 115 cm of height means longer bass strings than the smallest models have, but not the fullness of a 130. In a living room that is a sensible trade.
Three pedals: the right holds the note after the key is released, the left softens it, and the middle one puts a strip of felt in front of the strings so that you can still play late.
High gloss over oak shows fingerprints and dust plainly; a dry microfibre cloth, passed over now and then, keeps it in order.
The piano stands against the wall, with room to sit in front of it. 200 kg does not go up a staircase without piano movers. A radiator and direct sun both shorten the time between one tuning and the next. For quiet hours, an acoustic upright can have a Silent System fitted.
