GEWA UP540 — a digital piano in a classic upright cabinet, satin black, with 88 weighted keys.

The keyboard is a hammer action, heavier in the bass than in the treble as on an acoustic upright, with a surface that feels like ivory under the fingers. The principal voice is taken from a Hamburg concert grand; with it come 40 further sounds, a metronome, recording to USB, and Bluetooth for audio and MIDI — score apps and backing tracks play straight through the built-in speakers. Two headphone sockets mean teacher and pupil listen at the same time, and evening practice disturbs nobody.

The instrument wants a socket and a good 150 cm of wall to stand against. It weighs just under 70 kg and is carried by two. A good choice for a beginner, for someone returning to the piano, and as a second instrument in a flat where an acoustic would be too loud.
