Hellas 108 — a Finnish upright, 108 cm high, oak veneer in satin black, with three pedals.
Hellas is Finland's best-known piano maker; the instruments are plainly built and meant for living in a small space. 108 cm is the compact format: the bass strings are shorter than on a 120, but the piano goes where a bigger one will not.
A good choice for starting out, for a child in the early stages, and for anyone who wants a real acoustic piano in a small flat. Three pedals: the right holds the note, the left softens it, and the middle one lowers the felt strip so that you can practise in the evening as well.
Satin instead of high gloss means hardly any fingerprints and hardly any reflections from the window. The piano is 143 cm wide and 53 cm deep, stands against the wall and takes about 0.8 m² with somewhere to sit; it goes through an ordinary door without trouble. It weighs 210 kg, so movers carry it up the stairs. Not by the radiator and not in the sun. And if you practise in the evening with neighbours behind the wall, a Silent System can be fitted and you play with headphones on the same keys.
