Legnica 105 — a Polish upright, 105 cm tall, in satin mahogany.
The piano factory at Legnica was for decades one of the large makers of Eastern Europe, supplying music schools and homes across the region with plain, sturdy instruments without ornament. At 105 cm it stands just above the small-upright class: slightly longer bass strings than the 100 cm models, yet still unobtrusive against a wall.
A piano for the beginning and for the years after it — for a child in lessons, for an adult opening the music again after a long break. Two pedals: the right holds the note, the left softens it.
Satin mahogany is a reddish brown and easy to live with: no fingerprints, no window glare, and a dry cloth is enough.
Against the wall it needs 145 cm of width and 53 cm of depth, about 0.8 m² with the stool, and it goes through any ordinary door. Not by the radiator, not in the sun — swings in humidity put it out of tune. Above the ground floor it is carried by piano movers.
