Hofmann III — an upright 130 cm tall, in satin oak.
For anyone who wants as much bass out of an upright as an upright can give: advanced players, teachers, music schools — and homes where no grand will fit.
130 cm is the top of upright building. The bass strings are as long as in hardly any other upright and come close to a small grand, and the soundboard is large to match. Two pedals: the right holds the note, the left softens it.
Oak veneer in satin: the wood shows its grain, fingerprints hardly show, and raking light from the window is no trouble.
The piano is 149 cm wide and 66 cm deep — deeper than most — and takes about 1 m² with the stool. It goes through an ordinary door. Not by the radiator, not in the sun. It weighs 255 kg; even on the ground floor the carrying is better left to movers. If you play in the evening and have neighbours, an acoustic upright can have a Silent System fitted, and you play with headphones on the same keys.
