Everett 116 — an American upright, 116 cm tall, in satin veneer in an oak shade, 88 keys, three pedals.
Everett was one of the well-known American piano names for over a century, latterly out of Michigan, and built mainly for schools and living rooms. At 116 cm this model sits in the middle of the home range: more string length and more bass than the very compact uprights, yet still easy to place. Three pedals: the right holds the note, the left plays softer.
A piano for the beginning and for long after it — for children, for adults who mean at last to learn, and for the living room that prefers a wood shade to black lacquer.
The satin veneer forgives fingerprints but not sun: a place by the window bleaches the wood. The piano stands against the wall, 149 cm wide and 62 cm deep, and so goes through ordinary doors. It weighs 215 kg, and stairs are work for piano movers. Keep it away from the radiator. If you practise in the evening with neighbours behind the wall, a Silent System can be fitted.
