Schimmel 105 — an upright from Braunschweig, 105 cm tall, in satin white.

For children starting out, for small flats, and for light rooms where a black piano would sit too heavily.

105 cm is a compact format: the strings are shorter than in the tall uprights, so the bass stays leaner. For practice, for teaching and for accompanying, that is quite enough; if you want a carrying foundation under the left hand, you need more height. Three pedals: the right holds the note, the left softens it, and the middle one lowers the felt strip for quiet practice.

Satin white keeps the light in the room and shows fewer fingerprints than a mirrored surface.

Against the wall it needs about 0.8 m² with the stool; 1.48 m wide, 55 cm deep, so it goes through any ordinary door. Not by the radiator, not in the sun — swings in humidity put it out of tune. 195 kg means movers for anything above the ground floor. And if there are neighbours behind the wall, an acoustic upright can have a Silent System fitted, and then you practise in headphones on the same keys.
