Hellas 102 — a Finnish upright, 102 cm tall, in satin mahogany.
Hellas was the piano factory of Helsinki and for decades the household piano of Finland: instruments for homes, schools and music institutes across Scandinavia. At 102 cm it is a compact upright: the bass strings are shorter than on the 120 cm models and the bass is lighter, but it stands against any wall without taking over the room.
A piano for the first years and for anyone who plays regularly but not on a stage: children in lessons, adults who sit at the instrument for half an hour in the evening. Two pedals: the right holds the note, the left softens it.
Satin mahogany is a reddish brown with a quiet grain; on a satin surface neither fingerprints nor window light show, and a dry cloth is enough.
It stands against the wall, 145 cm wide and 51.5 cm deep, about 0.75 m² with the stool. At that depth it passes through any ordinary door. Not by the radiator, not in the sun: swings in humidity put it out of tune. For the way up to the flat, piano movers are the right people to call.
