Petrof Sonatina — a Czech upright, 114 cm tall, mahogany high gloss.
An instrument for the beginning and the first years: for children, for adults who mean at last to learn, and for homes where every centimetre counts.
Petrof has built in Hradec Králové since the nineteenth century and is still in family hands; the Sonatina is the house's compact model. 114 cm means shorter bass strings than in the tall uprights, and a leaner bass to match — for studies, sonatinas and songs that is quite enough. Two pedals: the right holds the note, the left softens it.
Mahogany in high gloss makes itself seen in a room; the surface shows fingerprints and likes a soft cloth. Keep it out of direct sun — veneer fades.
The piano is 143 cm wide and 54 cm deep, stands against the wall and takes about 0.8 m² with the stool. It goes through any ordinary door. Not by the radiator. At 185 kg it is light for an upright, but the stairs are still work for movers. If you practise in the evening and have neighbours, a Silent System can be fitted — it goes into any acoustic upright — and you play in headphones.
