An instrument for the home where the room allows it, for the teaching studio and for the small hall. Anyone just starting out gets more grand piano here than the first year asks for.
182 cm brings more bass string than an upright can ever have, and a good deal less than a concert grand: the middle register stays clear and the bass carries. The second difference lies in the action — a grand repeats faster, and a note can be taken again before the key is back at the top. The Model A is the house's salon grand and has been known at this size for a long time.
The keyboard has 85 keys, so the top three notes of today's 88 are not there. The standard repertoire scarcely touches them; some modern pieces do. Two pedals: the right lifts the dampers, the left shifts the action (una corda). There is no middle sostenuto, and anyone who plays works that call for one should reckon with that.
Satin black shows fewer fingerprints and fewer reflections than high gloss. The case measures 182 × 140 cm; with the stool and room for the player, reckon on about 4 m², and the lid wants to open into the room rather than towards a wall. Not by the radiator, not in the sun: swings in humidity put it out of tune. Nobody carries 310 kg alone — movers do it, taking off the legs and laying it on its side. If you play in the evening and the walls are thin: an acoustic instrument will take a Silent System, and you then play through headphones on the same keys.
