Kawai K-3 — a Japanese upright, 122 cm tall, in high-gloss black.
For the pupil who is past the first years, for the teaching room, and for the living room where somebody plays every day. The K series is Kawai's professional line; its action uses ABS-Carbon parts, which react less to moisture than wood does — an advantage in a flat with dry radiator air.
122 cm is above the usual home height: longer bass strings, a fuller bass, and more in reserve when you play strongly. Three pedals: the right holds the note, the left softens it, and the middle one holds particular notes that are already sounding (sostenuto).
High gloss reflects and shows fingerprints; a soft cloth is enough.
The piano is 149.5 cm wide and 59 cm deep, stands against the wall and, with the stool, takes about 0.8 m². At that depth it goes through an ordinary door. Not by the radiator and not in the sun: swings in humidity put it out of tune. 200 kg is lifted by movers, not by you. If you practise in the evening and have neighbours behind the wall, a Silent System can be fitted and you play with headphones on the same keys.
