Yamaha B2 — an upright of 113 cm, black high gloss, 88 keys, three pedals.
The B series is Yamaha's compact line, and the B2 is its middle model, between the smaller B1 and the taller B3. 113 cm is enough for a proper bass in a living room without the instrument setting the terms for the room. Three pedals: the right holds the note, the left plays softer, and the middle one lowers a strip of felt between hammers and strings and latches there — that is how you practise in the evening without waking the neighbours.
A good choice for children and beginners, for families in a small flat, and for anyone who wants a real acoustic upright without much room to give it.
At 53 cm deep it is one of the slimmer uprights and goes through any door; against the wall it needs 150 cm of width and, with somewhere to sit, about 0.8 m². It weighs 205 kg; stairs are work for piano movers. High gloss shows fingerprints, and a soft cloth is enough. Not by the radiator, not in the sun. Anyone who wants to practise in complete silence has a Silent System fitted and plays with headphones on the same keys.
