Yamaha AvantGrand N1 — a hybrid piano in black high gloss, 147 cm wide, 62 cm deep and 100 cm high.
The AvantGrand series is known for joining a real grand action to digital sound generation: you play on hammers and keys as in a grand, and the tone comes from speakers. That is why the action repeats as fast as a grand's, and why the instrument never needs tuning.
It suits pianists who want the feel of a grand at home without surrendering the space to one, and anyone who practises at hours when the neighbours are asleep: plug in headphones and the room stays quiet. Three pedals as on a grand, the sostenuto among them in the middle, which sustains only the notes you are holding at that moment.
The cabinet stands against the wall like an upright and, with room for the stool, takes just under 1 m². At 124 kg two people manage the stairs only with difficulty; reckon on piano movers. High gloss shows fingerprints, and a soft cloth is all it needs.
